Santa Fe Springs, Calif. — Swann Communications announced a new network camera aimed at consumer home security applications.
The Max-IP-Cam is a color camera with a built-in motion detector, integrated microphone and infrared LEDs for recording in the dark. When the model is connected to a wired network, users can have e-mail alerts sent to them when the camera detects motion. When it is unconnected, the video camera can record to an SD card.
It records video in two quality modes: VGA resolution/10 fps or QVGA resolution/15 fps. The camera’s built-in Web server allows users to monitor video from any Web browser. The camera can also be connected to a TV or VCR for viewing and recording surveillance video.
The IP camera is shipping now for a suggested $299.
The camera has been picked up by RadioShack, Fry’s Electronics and Ritz Camera Stores, among other dealers.
