Sony Cuts PS2 Price

San Diego — Moving closer to the November launch of Sony’s next-generation PlayStation 3 video game console, the company announced that is has cut the price on its existing PlayStation 2 player 13 percent to $130.

Sony and other video game makers typically cut the price on an existing player to spark demand several months before a next-generation product is slated to go on sale.

The PlayStation 2 had previously sold for about $149 in most retail locations. It was introduced into the market in 2000 and leads the video game market with over 101 million units sold.

Microsoft is currently selling its Xbox 360 system about $400.
