Sony Adds White PS2 For Holidays

Foster City, Calif. — Sony Computer Entertainment America said it will offer in November a limited edition ceramic white version of its Playstation 2 video game console bundled with the SingStar Pop video game at a $149.99 suggested retail.

SingStar Pop is the second release in the multi-million selling SingStar franchise.

Sony said the game will give purchasers “an exclusive way to enjoy social gaming with family and friends.”

The package will include two microphones to support the sing-along game. SingStar Pop allows players to sing real songs from popular performers including Alicia Keys, U2, Rihanna, Ashlee Simpson, The All-American Rejects and The Clash.

The new white PS2 will support all of the features of the charcoal black version, including playback of CDs and DVDs. It will also include two memory card slots and an integrated Ethernet port for network gaming.

“With our expansive library of titles for PlayStation, led by social gaming experiences such as SingStar, and Buzz!, we have an incredible offering for first-time gaming families,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. “At $149, the limited edition Ceramic White PlayStation 2, bundled with the family-friendly social gaming title, SingStar Pop, is an unbeatable value that will provide fun for everyone this holiday.”

Sony said it has sold more than 117 million PS2 systems worldwide, and 44 million in North America. A further 10 million PlayStation 2 units are expected to be sold worldwide by the end of March 2008.
