INDIANAPOLIS — RTI is coming to the CEDIA Expo with its new KX7 in-wall 7-inch color-LCD touchpanel, 3.5-inch KX2 in-wall keypad controller with LCD display, and SURFiR RF remote to control home systems.
The KX7 controls a home’s entertainment, security and environmental systems though a 7-inch 800 by 480 WVGA capacitive multitouch display that needs no separate control processor Features include composite, S-Video, and component video inputs at resolutions up to 576p.
Features include wired 10/100Base-T Ethernet and wireless Wi-Fi 802.11 connections providing two-way control and feedback, access to web pages, and video from network security cameras.
A high-output IR port provides direct control of multiple devices from up to 1,000 feet away, and a twoway RS-232 port runs RTI’s one-way and two-way control drivers. The KX7 was due to ship in August.
The KX2 in-wall controller with programmable hard buttons and 3.5-inch color LCD can be used with RTI accessory devices to provide IR routing, relay control, power sensing, and two-way communications via Ethernet and RS-232. It can be used as a stand-alone device or as part of an expandable central control system, and its 12 hard buttons and graphic interface are fully programmable.
The KX2’s infrared output provides direct control of almost any A/V component or lighting system from up to 1,000 feet away. An integrated 10/100Base-T Ethernet port offers Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) capability. A proximity sensor automatically lights up the keypad when someone approaches. The KX2, due in the fourth quarter, is available with gloss white, light almond, or black faceplate and buttons.
The SURFiR Companion remote is designed as a low-cost companion for use with any of RTI’s XP control processors and with Apple iOS or Android mobile devices running the RTiPanel control app. Consumers can use their Apple and Android touchscreen device as the graphical interface for their control system, but they can also use the SURFiR remote with hard buttons to provide instant-on, tactile control of home systems, the company said. The SURFiR remote eliminates the many screen swipes needed to get to frequently-used controls, the company said.
SURFiR also enables consumers to check emails, read news feeds, and access socialmedia apps on their mobile device while maintaining control over a home system.
Also new: the RKM-1+ multi-room audio keypad, which is sized for flush-mount installs in a single-gang electrical box and allows for devices up to 1,000 feet away to be controlled via an infrared output port. The RKM-1+ features eight fully programmable hard buttons and a customizable LED display. The display provides feedback on power status, selected source, and volume level. The RKM-1+ also offers new faceplate covers and custom-engraved buttons.
Another product, which is already available, is the ESC-2 Ethernet to serial converter, which adds two additional bidirectional serial ports over Ethernet to enable full two-way control of a home device from an Ethernet-connected control processor. Multiple ESC-2 models can be used to control a “virtually unlimited” number of serial devices. Two RJ-45 jacks allow for a standard CAT-5 cable to connect the ESC-2 and the device being controlled. The ESC-2 is then connected to the local Ethernet network with a standard CAT-5 cable.
