Pioneer Car Plans AppRadio Hackathon At SEMA Show

Long Beach, Calif. – Pioneer will go the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas next Tuesday to host its first AppRadio Hackathon, which is designed to promote the development of apps for Pioneer head units equipped with AppRadio technology.

The touchscreens of AppRadio-equipped heads units control compatible apps on cable-connected iPhones.

The 69-hour around-the-clock Hackathon starts Tuesday, Oct, 30 and runs through Friday, Nov. 2. More than $50,000 in cash and prizes that will be awarded for the best apps developed in three categories during the four-day event.

The event will be held in a 4,000-square-foot area in the South Hall, Upper Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center (booth 33000). Winners will be announced at an awards presentation at noon that day.

Prizes will be awarded for apps in these three categories:

Voice-Interface Social Networking Automotive App to provide for safe in-vehicle use of Social Networking Services (SNS) through voice recognition and a text-to-speech interface.

Location-Based Services (LBS) App, which is for automotive applications.

SEMA Member automotive accessory application, which would incorporate SEMA Show exhibitors’ technologies, products or services.

Pioneer staff will be available around-the-clock to answer developers’ questions.
