London — High Tech Computer (HTC) plans late summer/early fall availability in the United States of the HTC Touch, a PDA phone featuring a 2.8-inch LCD touchscreen that responds to the sweep of a finger or stylus across the screen.
The Touch, based on the based on the Windows Mobile 6 Professional OS, is available in the United Kingdom as a 900/1800/1900MHz GSM/EDGE triband at up to 449 euros ($599). For the U.S. market, the company has not announced whether the Touch will be a quadband model or whether it will be sold unlocked or through carriers.
The Touch is the first product with HTC’s TouchFLO finger-touch-navigation technology, which enables consumers to sweep their finger up the display to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface that features three screens: contacts, media and applications. The screens can be selected by swiping a finger right or left across the display. TouchFLO also enhances finger-touch scrolling and browsing of Web pages, documents, messages and contact lists, the company said.
The 3.93-inch by 2.28-inch by 0.55-inch device weighs 3.9 ounces with 1100mAh lithium-ion battery that delivers up to 200 hours of standby time or up to five hours of talktime. It’s equipped with 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, included 1GB microSD storage card, 240 by 320 screen, 2-megapixel camera, Direct Push email and HTML email support.
It will be available in soft black or wasabi green.
