N.J. Mulls Instant Rebate Bill

Trenton, N.J. – New Jersey’s state assembly is voting on a bill
today that would compel retailers to provide instant rebates to customers if a
product’s post-rebate price is advertised.

The measure, which was designed to save consumers the hassle of
filling out rebate forms before expiration and waiting weeks to receive a
check, would require retailers to sell items at the net advertised price at
checkout and complete the rebate redemption process themselves or face stiff

 If passed, New Jersey
would become the third state after Connecticut and Rhode Island to have an
instant rebate law on the books, the Star-Ledger reported.
