New Remote Controls From NextGen, RTI

Denver — Despite rumors of the remote control’s death at the hands of smartphone and tablet apps, at least two suppliers are debuting new traditional high-end controllers at CEDIA Expo.

NextGen is showing its four-function programmable IR/RF remote control at booth 628 at the show. The remote, which will ship in October for $69.99, is designed to be used with the company’s Genius or Plus remote extenders. It can also be used as a stand-alone device.

It has a built-in IR/RF transmitter. When used in RF mode, the device can operate through walls and doors, the company said.

RTI Products is showing it T2x handheld controller featuring 47 programmable hard buttons for common control functions and a 2.8-inch color TFT LCD touchscreen interface that is customizable via RTI’s Integration Designer software for macros and sequencing.

The flush-mount, edge-to-edge touchscreen was designed with improved gesture support, such as when swiping through scrolling lists. Integrated grip sensors keep the T2x awake during use, while an accelerometer provides instant-on control.

The T2x includes three built-in wireless modes for control and program downloading. In addition to integrated 802.11b/g wireless Ethernet, the controller features RTI’s dual-RF platform, which supports both 433-MHz RF for one-way control and 2.4-GHz ZigBee for bi-directional communication with RTI processors and supported third-party electronics. The controller also provides direct IR control with a wide IR transmitting frequency range.

RTI Products is in booth 3606.
