Microtek Intros New Scanner

Carson, Calif. — Microtek added the ScanMaker i800 to its family of flatbed photo scanners, yesterday.

The unit features a resolution of 4,800 by 9,600 dpi with 48-bit color and can handle multiple film sizes including 24 frames of 35mm filmstrips, 12 mounted 35mm slides, two 4-inch by 5-inch transparencies, and medium format photos up to 2.3 by 6.5 inches panoramic shots.

The scanning area measures in at 8.5 by 14 inches for legal-sized documents or for scanning multiple photo prints.

The scanner features Microtek’s EZ-Lock film holders to keep film aligned and in focus and the company’s PictuRescue system which incorporates Kodak’s Digital ICE image restoration technology. Users can choose between automatic or manual photo print reconstruction of damaged photographs. The manual mode lets users choose different levels of Digital ICE adjustments to repair damage in isolated areas of a picture.

The i800 is bundled with two software packages: ScanWizardPro for advanced users and ScanWizard 5 for novices.

The ScanMaker i800 is shipping now for a suggested $399.99.
