Cupertino, Calif. – With considerably less fanfare than what
accompanied the recent
, Apple today introduced more iMac and
MacPro models.
Apple’s updated iMac line now includes Intel Core i3, i5 and i7
processors along with an optional Magic Trackpad.
The Magic Trackpad allows users to brings the multitouch gestures
found on Mac notebook trackpads to the desktop, the company said.
The all-in-one iMacs start with the 21.5-inch, 3.06GHz Core i3
version carrying an $1,199 suggested retail. The processor has 4MB of L3 cache,
4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (expandable 16GB), ATI Radeon HD4670 discrete
graphics containing 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM memory and a 500GB hard drive.
Other features include an 8x SuperDrive optical drive, AirPort
802.11n wireless, Bluetooth, webcam and built-in speakers.
The step-up version, $1,499, has a slightly faster Core i3
processor and a 1TB hard drive and has configure-to-order options of a 2TB hard
drive or a 3.6GHz Core i5 processor.
The next model, $1,699, adds a 27-inch display to the base features,
with configure-to-order options that include a 256GB solid-state drive, 2TB
hard drive and a 3.6GHz Core i5 processor.
At $1,999 is an iMac sporting a 2,8GHz quad-core i5 processor with 8MB of L3 cache. Customers
can order this model with a 2.93GHZ quad-core i7 processor, 256GB solid-state
drive, up to 16GB of DDR3 SDRAM and a 2TB hard drive.
Apple also updated its Mac Pro line with the addition of quad-
and six-core Intel Xeon processors. These feature Intel’s Turbo Boost and
Hyper-Threading technology that can create up to 24 virtual processors cores in
the unit.
The base Mac Pro now comes with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics
processor with 1GB of memory, and the computer can be ordered with the
higher-end ATI HD 5870 GPU, also with 1GB of memory.
Another configure-to-order option is 512GB of solid-state drive
memory. The Mac Pro can incorporate four of these drives in separate bays.
The new Mac Pro will ship in August with a $2,499 suggested
retail.
