Kodak Ties Gallery Site To Mobile Phones

Rochester, N.Y. — Kodak announced a new application to connect mobile phones with its online EasyShare Gallery.

The software, developed by West Trenton, N.J.-based Exclaim, is called Kodak Mobile link and it will be available on CDMA BREW wireless carriers, with GSM/Java carriers expected to come on board later in the year.

The program will be available for download through participating wireless carriers, including Verizon and U.S. Cellular, and will be subscription-based with pricing set by the carrier (plans will start at $3.99). Mobile Link lets users send images to the EasyShare Gallery directly, without having to attach them to MMS messages. Users can also view Gallery images on their camera phones.

Photos can be sent to the Gallery with voice clips and text captions.

Kodak integrated mobile imaging into its online site (then Ofoto) in 2003 and has since been expanding the number of phones, carriers and platforms the service can access.

Kodak also announced the latest version of its free EasyShare desktop software (v6.2), integrating it even further with the Gallery with an “express order” feature for quickly ordering prints or other photo merchandise. It also offers “drag and drop” uploading to the Gallery from within the software.
