Chicago – hhgregg’s
long-awaited entry into the Chicago market will formally take place tomorrow
with the opening of its first 14 area stores.
Ribbon-cutting
ceremonies will be performed at each new location at 2:45 p.m., followed by the
official store opening at 3 p.m. Customers attending the festivities will have
a chance to win prizes, including a Frigidaire stainless-steel kitchen
appliance package, a 55-inch LG 3DTV, a Magellan GPS device and hhgregg gift
cards.
The chain will
also hold a grand-opening sale at area stores Sept. 15-24.
The Chicago
rollout represents the company’s largest single-market launch to date, and puts
the Indianapolis-based CE and majap chain in direct competition with local
independents Abt Electronics and Grant’s Appliances while encroaching on Sears
Holdings’ hometown turf.
The addition of
the Chicagoland locations brings hhgregg’s store count to 204 showrooms in
Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland,
Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina,
Tennessee and Virginia.
