DreamWorks Goes Disc-To-Digital

Bentonville, Ark. – On the day that its disc-to-digital movie
service went live to consumers,

Walmart

announced that a sixth Hollywood studio — DreamWorks Animation — has
officially joined the program.

DreamWorks joins Paramount, Sony, Fox, Universal and Warner Bros.
in making many of their most popular DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles available to
be registered through the UltraViolet digital content-locker system. The system
lets users stream Cloud-based copies from a range of devices, including
connected Blu-ray players, smart TVs, iPads, iPhones, etc.

Walmart charges $2 for a standard-definition version of a DVD and
a high-def version of a Blu-ray Disc, and $5 for an upgrade of a DVD to a
high-def digital version.

Content can be “unlocked” as video through Walmart’s Vudu online
movie service that is available as an app on a wide range of CE products.

The addition of DreamWorks to the camp adds a range of popular children’s
movies to the service, including “Shrek,” “Kung Fu Panda” and “Madagascar,” among
others.

The Walmart Entertainment disc-to-digital service is available starting
April 16 at more than 3,500 Walmart stores.

A full list of titles currently available for disc-to-digital
capability can be found on Vudu.com.
