El Segundo, Calif. — DirecTV said it is launching an interactive video game channel called Game Lounge, which teams with a variety of branding partners to offer games for children and adults.
As part of the initiative, DirecTV announced an exclusive deal with Mattel that will incorporate all Mattel brands, including Barbie, Hot Wheels and UNO, into a line of children’s games available exclusively for the Game Lounge platform.
Other branding partners will include Nickelodeon, Leap Frog and PBS Kids, which will enable the themed games based on such characters as SpongeBob Square Pants, Avatar and TAK. Other games will include video Black Jack, Poker, Sudoku, Solitaire, Monopoly, Scrabble, Yahtzee and Bejeweled 2.
Game offerings range in style from puzzle, word, card and educational to arcade styles. Games will be played using the DirecTV remote control.
Games are available to DirecTV subscribers with interactive receivers. Fees include $5.95 for an all-access monthly subscription, to $1.95 for “play-per-day.”
