DirecTV Adds 184K Net New Subs In Q1

El Segundo, Calif. – DirecTV continued to add new subscribers in the first quarter of the year, with net new subscriber additions of 184,000 in the United States.

DirecTV reported consolidated revenue rose 12.7 percent to $6.3 billion in the period while operating profit before depreciation and amortization rose 12.1 percent to $1.8 billion.

DirecTV attributed its financial growth in part to increased revenue from premium channels and increased viewership of pay-per-view movies in the United States.

Pay-per-view revenue rose 30 percent in the period.

The company also reported solid gains from its Latin American businesses. DirecTV Latin America scriber gains rose 60 percent to 429,000 net new customers in the first quarter, as revenue leapt 43 percent to $1.1 billion and operating income before depreciation and amortization rose 57 percent to $384 million.

Revenue in the U.S. rose 7.8 percent to $5.1 billion as operating income rose 4.4 percent to $1.4 billion.
