Dell Augments XPS Effort With Three New Units

Dell refreshed its high-end XPS product line by introducing a new flagship gaming desktop and two notebooks, including the production version of the Mobile Concept notebook M2010 originally shown by the company at International CES in January.

The M2010 is a mix between a notebook and a desktop that utilizes an odd folding design to encapsulate the unit’s 20-inch high definition display. The unit’s weight of 17 pounds makes it more of a luggable computer for consumers with space limitations or gamers interested in taking the model out of the house to compete. Other features include a detachable Bluetooth keyboard, Intel Core Duo processors, an ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 graphics card, dual-format DVD burner, a 1.3-megapixel Web camera, eight speakers and Wi-Fi networking. The unit’s suggested retail price will start at $3,500, with the final cost dependent upon its configuration.

The second notebook is the XPS M1210 ultra-portable. At 4.3 pounds, it comes available with Intel Core Duo processors, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 Turbo Cache graphics card, 12.1-inch display, up to 2GB of DDR2 memory and a variety of hard drives. It is available with a $1,300 suggested retail price.

The XPS 700 is the latest generation of Dell’s XPS 600 gaming computer, which also was introduced at CES. The XPS 700 is available as a preconfigured unit with a $2,310 starting price or as a kit for the do-it-yourself crowd containing a chassis, processor, 512MB of memory, motherboard and power supply for $1,210. The customer would then personalize the unit with after-market components.

The XPS 700 as supplied by Dell is available with an Intel Pentium D and Extreme Edition 965 Dual Core processors with an 800MHz front-side bus. It can take 4GB of DDR2 667MHz memory, NVIDIA SLI and Quad SLI or an ATI Radeon X1900 graphic cards, eight USB and two 1394 ports.

Dell also unveiled a new LCD monitor, the 24-inch 2407WFP. Intended for the professional market, the unit has a maximum resolution of 1,920 by 1,200, a nine-in-two media-card reader, DVI/analog inputs with HDCP and four USB ports. It is available for $949.
