Canon To Build New Camera Plant

Tokyo – Responding to growing global demand for digital cameras, Canon will build a new manufacturing plant in Nagasaki, Japan, the company said.

The plant will manufacture both compact cameras and digital SLRs. Construction is slated to begin in January 2009 and the 125,000 square foot factory is expected to begin producing digital cameras by December, 2009.

Canon said the facility would likely employ over 1,000 people and have an annual production capacity of four million units.
