Apple Cuts iMac Prices

Cupertino, Calif. – Apple lowered the price on two iMac models by $100 and introduced a DVD-R SuperDrive equipped eMac.

The new eMac will ship at the end of August with a $1,499 suggested retail price. In addition to the DVD-R/CD-RW drive the computer will feature an 800MHz PowerPC G4 processor, 256MB of RAM, 60GB hard drive and NVIDIA GeForce2 MX graphics card. The eMac line was introduced earlier this year as Apple’s attempt to regain share in the education and small business markets.

The price cuts effected the combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW and CD-RW equipped iMacs. The units with the combo drive will now cost $1,499, while the CD-RW drive models are $1,299. These models are otherwise identically equipped with a G4 700MHz processor, 256MB of RAM and 40GB hard drives.
