Following on the heels of its successful 720p broadcasts of the 1999 Monday Night Football series, ABC announced it will offer the National Hockey League All-Star game in the HDTV format on February 6.
ABC Sports said it would again “team up” with Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems to broadcast the All-Star game live from Toronto.
The telecast will use ABC’s chosen 720p format, with Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound.
The HDTV coverage of the game will be produced and transmitted independently of ABC’s NTSC analog transmission of the All-Star game.
