New York – Consumers options for 4G LTE service are growing.
In the coming months, Sprint said it would launch commercial availability of 4G LTE in 100 more cities.
Currently, the carrier offers 4G LTE service in 19 cities in five metropolitan areas. Analysts indicate Sprint is publicizing its LTE expansion to remain competitive with other iPhone-carrying carriers when Apple unveils what is expected to be the first LTE-equipped iPhone on Wednesday.
For its part, regional carrier C Spire launched LTE service in McComb, Miss., and will roll out service to 30 more Mississippi markets by the end of October. Six more Mississippi markets will go online by the end of 2012 to reach 1.2 million people.
Sprint’s LTE network, launched in five markets earlier this year, currently operates in the following 19 cities in five metro markets: Atlanta; Athens, Ga.; Baltimore; Calhoun, Ga.; Carrollton, Ga.; Newnan, Ga.; Rome, Ga.; Dallas; Fort Worth, Texas; Gainesville, Ga.; Granbury-Hood County, Texas; Houston; Huntsville, Texas; Kansas City, Mo./Kansas City, Kan.; Manhattan/Junction City, Kan.; San Antonio; Sedalia, Mo.; Waco, Texas; and St. Joseph, Mo.
Sprint plans to expand its LTE network to markets with 123 million people by the end of the year and, by the end of 2013, reach 250 million people out of its 3G population base of 282 million.
