TiVo Adds Jaman Movie Content

Alviso, Calif. — TiVo reached a deal Thursday with Internet movie service Jaman.com to give subscribers of TiVo’s DVR service the ability to access thousands of American independent and international film titles on their TV screens directly from their TiVo recorders.

TiVo said the service will be available in the coming months to subscribers with broadband-connected TiVo Series2 and Series3 DVRs.

TiVo subscribers will be able to both rent and purchase films from Jaman starting at $1.99. In addition, the company said a number of shorts and full-length films are available to download for free.

Jaman’s film library includes a number of internationally-acclaimed titles, many of which will be available in HD resolution to owners of TiVo HD-enabled DVRs, TiVo said. Some of the better known offerings include the Oscar-nominated “Paheli,” “Loverboy” (Sundance) with Kyra Sedgwick, “All About Lily Chou-Chou” (Berlin International Film Festival) and Dardennes Brothers’ “La Promesse” (Cannes/Toronto).

TiVo said Jaman’s selection will complement the thousands of more mainstream selections through TiVo’s popular Amazon Unbox offering.

“The combination of high-definition content from Jaman, with the convenience and familiarity of TiVo’s intuitive interface, will provide users with the ability to discover and enjoy films from around the world,” according to a TiVo statement.

“By capitalizing on TiVo’s vast big-screen user experience, we’re making it even easier for people to discover, browse and enjoy our catalog of high-definition, edgy and award-winning films on their TVs,” stated Jaman’s CEO Gaurav Dhillon. “This venture cements our position as a leading online provider of movies, offering unique and original content that viewers can’t find anywhere else.”

The relationship with TiVo extends Jaman’s broad cross-platform leadership with support for set-top boxes, PCs, Macs, SanDisk’s TakeTV and DivX.

The Jaman service will be added to a growing list of content options now available through TiVo DVRs, including the aforementioned Unbox, and Rhapsody music
