Bose Unveils Smart Speaker & Soundbars

Ship with Alexa support; additional voice assistants on tap

Bose introduced a new wireless smart speaker and two smart soundbars this week, all with Amazon Alexa and voice control.

The three speakers include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Alexa, with support for additional voice assistants and AirPlay 2 on tap. They can also be paired for use as multi-room systems. Availability is slated for October.

Bose touted the speakers’ eight-microphone array as able to provide superior voice-control capabilities despite the amount of ambient noise.

The 8-inch-tall Home Speaker 500 ($399 suggested retail) is enclosed in anodized aluminum and features drivers pointing in opposite directions.

The 38-inch-long Soundbar 700 ($549) has a wraparound metal grille and a tempered glass top. It also comes with a universal remote. The 31-inch Soundbar 500 ($799), meanwhile, is a smaller, slimmer version with a matte finish.

Both use Bose’s proprietary Adaptiq sound technology to adjust sound in response to ambient noise. They also have HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) and can be wall-mounted expanded with a wireless bass module and rear speakers.
