ŠKODA Joins Massive MirrorLink Rollout in Europe

PARIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), an organization driving global technologies for phone-centric car connectivity solutions, today announced that ŠKODA, a Volkswagen Group brand, has joined a growing list of global automakers with MirrorLink® pre-enabled in mass-market vehicles. ŠKODA revealed its first MirrorLink-enabled car, the all new ŠKODA Fabia, at the Paris Motor Show this month.

“ŠKODA sees MirrorLink as a main factor in the brand’s mass-market appeal,” said Dr. Stefan E. Ortmann, Head of Electric and electronic development of ŠKODA AUTO. “ŠKODA wants to bring smartphone intelligence into the car and to make it as easy as possible for customers to access their favorite content in a way that is Simply Clever. As it is one of our most popular models, the Fabia was an ideal place to start.”

“The CCC is very pleased to see ŠKODA’s commitment to MirrorLink at such a massive scale,” said Alan Ewing, President and Executive Director of the CCC. “As more and more automakers continue to deliver MirrorLink-enabled vehicles to showrooms across the globe, more consumers will experience the sheer joy of MirrorLink’s connect-and-ride philosophy.”

ŠKODA is one of Europe’s largest automakers, with 2013 sales in excess of 920,000 new vehicles. The company has significantly increased deliveries, sales revenue and operating profit in the first half of 2014. Selling 522,500 vehicles, this was the first time that the Czech carmaker has delivered more than half a million vehicles worldwide in the first half of a year; momentum has continued over the ensuing months.

MirrorLink is the leading industry standard for car-smartphone connectivity and is designed for maximum interoperability between a wide range of smartphones and cars. As the only OS- and OEM-agnostic standard for car-smartphone connectivity, it empowers consumers to feel linked to their devices and responsible at the same time. MirrorLink makes connected driving more responsible and enjoyable, and gives consumers freedom of choice and peace of mind when it comes to using their favorite devices in their favorite cars.
