TCL Expanding Roku TV Lineup To 11 Models

CORONA, CALIF. — TCL will expand its lineup of Roku TV models in the first half to 11 SKUs, from four, starting at a suggested retail of $219 for a 32-inch model.

The LED-backlit LCD TVs incorporate Roku’s Roku TV platform, which delivers access to all of Roku’s streaming audio and video services. The platform is also promoted as simplifying content selection by putting all video sources — TV, Roku streaming services, and connected sources such as game consoles — on a homescreen UI. The TVs also display video, pictures and audio sent wirelessly from a smartphone or tablet running a Roku app.

All models also feature built-in Wi-Fi to access the streaming services and display smartphone content.

Hisense is the only other TV supplier incorporating the Roku TV platform, but Haier and Best Buy’s Insignia brand have also announced Roku TV plans.

In its 2015 lineup, TCL will offer Roku TV across three series: the entry-level 3700 series, the 3800 Design series and the top-end 3850 Decorator series.

The 3700 series is a refresh of the 4610R series that TCL said sold through faster than expected through major retailers. The three models in the new series will appear in stores later this month. They are the 32-inch 32S3700 at a suggested $219, the 48- inch 48S3700 at $429, and the 55-inch 55S3700 at $598. The 48- and 55-inch models step up to 1080p resolution with 120Hz refresh rate. All three feature three HDMI inputs, enabling users to switch sources with one click from a personalized homescreen, the company said.

The 3800 series will be available later in the first half in four sizes: 32, 40, 48 and 50 inches. Pricing and availability dates weren’t disclosed. All but the 32-inch model feature 1080p resolution. They also feature 120Hz refresh rate, a new design and a quadpedestal stand.

The top-end 3850 series will also launch in the first half in four sizes: 32, 40, 50 and 55 inches. They also have 1080p and 120Hz refresh and come with gunmetal metallic finish and an all-aluminum quad-pedestal stand. Pricing and availability weren’t announced.

The company said it is also developing an Ultra HD Roku TV but didn’t specify availability.

None of the Roku TV models features local LED dimming.

The company’s original Roku TVs were priced from $229 to $649 in 32-, 40-, 48- and 55-inch screen sizes.
