Samsung, B&N Team On Second Nook Tablet

New York — Samsung teamed up with Barnes & Noble to launch their second co-branded Android tablet, which is optimized for e-reading, runs a Nook UI and accesses B&N content.

The 10.1-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is B&N’s largest Nook tablet ever and joins the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook launched in August.

The ad-free tablets are available in more than 650 B&N bookstores and online at BN.com and Nook.com, with the black 10.1-inch model priced at an introductory $299, including more than $200 in Nook content. The 7-inch model is available in black or white at $169 after $30 instant rebate.

Customers purchasing the 10.1-inch tablet will receive new Nook software starting today as an over-the-air update to provide a cleaner visual design and user interface, and a “more immersive shopping experience.” New navigation tools will provide quick access between shopping, stored content, settings, content currently being read and other sections on the device. The software also adds support for portrait and landscape modes, including during the shopping experience.

The updated software will roll out to the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 4 Nook in November.

The new Nook tablet, built on Samsung’s 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 4 tablet, features an HD display,

built-in 1.3-megapixel front- and 3-megapixel rear-facing cameras for photos and video chats, built-in GPS, and Samsung’s Multi Window capability, which lets users view more than one app simultaneously and share content between the apps.

The tablet also has 16GB of built-in storage and expandable memory.
