Samsung Names New Creative Heads

Ridgefield Park, N.J. — Samsung Electronics America has recruited Unilever exec Marc Mathieu as chief marketing officer and appointed former CAA marketer Jesse Coulter chief creative officer.

The appointments were announced in tandem with the opening of a new Global Marketing Center of Excellence (COE) in New York City that will house the company’s creative services staff.

As CMO, Mathieu will lead U.S.-based marketing across all lines of business, including home entertainment, home appliances and telecommunications.

He succeeds Todd Pendleton, who joined Samsung four years ago from Nike as mobile CMO.

He will also oversee the COE, which will house the U.S.-based creative, digital, content services and brand marketing teams and was designed by Samsung as “an incubator for marketing innovation.”

The COE occupies three floors of office space at Samsung’s new flagship building located at 837 Washington Street in Manhattan. Scheduled for completion later this year, the building will also feature an executive briefing center, experiential product showcase and event space.

Reporting to Mathieu, Coulter will be tasked with developing next-generation concepts, strategies and marketing campaigns across the North America product portfolio. He was most recently co-chief creative officer for CAA Marketing at leading Hollywood talent agency CAA (Creative Artists Agency).
