Ron Boire Named Barnes & Noble CEO

New York – Long-time CE-industry and retail executive Ron Boire has been appointed CEO of Barnes & Noble’s retail and Nook businesses effective Sept. 8.

Boire currently serves as president/CEO of Sears Canada and is a member of its board.

The retail veteran will become B&N CEO once the company spins off its college-bookstore business into a separate public company as previously announced. The spinoff is expected by the end of August. The company also expects Boire will join the Barnes & Noble board.

Michael Huseby, who currently serves as B&N CEO and board member, will remain in those positions until the split, after which he will become executive chairman of Barnes & Noble Education, the bookstore unit. That company will have a separate board of directors.

Before joining Sears Canada, Boire was EVP, chief merchandising officer and president of Sears and Kmart Formats at Sears Holdings. He was also president/CEO of Brookstone North America and president of Toys ‘R Us from 2006 through 2009.
He was also EVP/global merchandise manager at Best Buy, responsible for managing Best Buy’s U.S. business teams, global technology, vendor management, global sourcing and private-label development. Before that, he held a variety of roles at Sony Electronics for 17 years, including president of Sony’s personal mobile products company. He was also president of the Sony consumer sales company responsible for sales and distribution in the U.S.
