hhgregg’s Chief Merchant Resigns

Indianapolis – hhgregg is without a chief merchandising officer for the second time in two years.

Jeffery Haines, a former ad industry exec and Sears CE VP, has resigned from the chain after less than 19 months on the job.

According to a federal filing, Haines gave notice on Nov. 14 for personal reasons, but will stay on for a short period of time “to assist in an orderly transition,” the company said.

His resignation follows last month’s dismal second-quarter earnings report, in which hhgregg posted a $10.4 million loss and an 11.4 percent decline in same-store sales.

Haines joined the multiregional majap, CE and home furnishings retailer in 2013, succeeding ex-Sears and Circuit City senior exec Doug Moore, who briefly served as chief merchandising and marketing officer the prior year.

The company said its board will begin a search for a new chief merchandising officer.
