Sony Announces New PS2 Prices

FOSTER CITY, CA – Sony’s Computer Entertainment unit announced new pricing options for its PlayStation 2 gaming system.

Effective immediately, Sony is offering an extension of the current PlayStation 2 Combo Pack, which provides $60 of free merchandise and software with each hardware purchase. The Combo Pack, which carries a $199 suggested retail price, includes the PlayStation 2 console, Network Adaptor (Ethernet/modem) and a copy of the online-enabled game, ATV Offroad Fury 2.

In company will continue to offer the standalone PlayStation 2 console, at the reduced suggested retail price of $179.

Sony said it would support the offers with ‘a multimillion-dollar marketing campaign centered on consumer value and entertainment via the PlayStation 2 platform.’

The campaign targets national retail and consumer newspaper advertising, featuring a dedicated television advertising initiative that will launch in the fall. The company will also have point-of-sale materials available at retail outlets nationwide through year-end, Sony said.
