Skype Names New Executives

Luxembourg— Skype named two executives to the newly created positions of chief strategy officer and chief technology officer today.

Daniel Berg was named CTO and Christopher Dean was tapped CSO. Both will report to Skype president Josh Silverman.

Dean’s appointment is effective immediately while Berg will assume his new role on January 1, 2009. Berg is a 15 year veteran of Sun Microsystems, serving most recently as CTO. Prior to joining Skype, Dean was a co-founder of the investment management firm Texada Capital.

“The appointment of these pivotal roles for technology and strategy, at a time when many technology companies are cutting back on resources, demonstrates Skype’s commitment to driving forward a vision of technological innovation coupled with the creation of a world-class leadership team,” Silverman said in a statement announcing the appointments.
