Linksys Unveils Small Biz Web Cam

5/31/2006 10:31:00 AM Eastern

Irvine, Calif. — Linksys announced a new network camera geared for the SO/HO community.

The Wireless-G Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) Internet camera with audio (WVC200) can broadcast real-time audio and video over the Internet and is viewable through a standard Web browser by up to 10 simultaneous users. Because the WVC200 features its own IP address it does not have to be directly connected to a PC but to any wireless or wired network. The camera’s IP address is displayed on an LCD screen on the camera.

The WVC200 offers a 2x digital zoom and records VGA resolution MPEG-4 video. The camera can be panned and tilted remotely.

Included software lets users monitor multiple cameras and record video to a hard drive. An Infrared (IR) cut filter allows the camera to capture video in low or no light environments when an external IR lamp is used. The camera can be scheduled to snap still images which can be sent to FTP servers.

In security mode, video and audio feeds are recorded whenever motion is detected, and up to three e-mail alerts can be generated with a short video clip in the attachment.

The WVC200 is shipping now for an estimated $299.
