Hotel Strike Forces HE Show Cancellation

San Francisco – The Home Entertainment 2004 Show, scheduled for Nov. 4-7, was abruptly cancelled a week before it was to take place because of hotel labor strike, the show’s sponsor said.

The strike began on September 29 and affects the following hotels: Argent, Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Fairmont, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Holiday Inn Civic Center, Holiday Inn Express and Suites Fisherman’s Wharf, Holiday Inn at Fisherman’s Wharf, Mark Hopkins, The Omni, Palace and Westin-St. Francis.

Show sponsor Primedia claimed canceling was its only option. “We have been monitoring the situation in San Francisco very closely and are disappointed that the city and hotel union workers have not been able to come to an agreement,” said Adam Marder, Primedia’s president of Home Technology & Photography Group. “The disruption of services would affect our exhibitors and show attendees, and we had no choice but to cancel the event.”

The next Home Entertainment Show is scheduled for April 28-May 1, 2005 in New York City.
