Tempe, Ariz. — Car audio supplier Rockford Fosgate is targeting sales to motorcycle manufacturers for the first time to complement its sales to makes of recreational vehicle.
The company signed up Elkhart, Ind.-based RiverPark as a national OEM distributor of Rockford Fosgate products to OEM builders of recreational vehicles and motorsports vehicles, effective Aug. 1.
RiverPark was founded in 1981 as a national distributor of mobile audio products to the U.S. RV industry and has since expanded into other OEM markets.
Although Rockford Fosgate previously “worked with RV OEM through distribution,” a spokesman said, “this is the first time for motorcycles.” Rockford “is engaging a number of specialty distributors under the newly created power-sports division,” he added.
As part of its effort to target motorcycle owners, Rockford Fosgate became the official motorcycle-audio sponsor of the 74th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which has become one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the world. More than 500,000 million motorcycle enthusiasts participated in the 2013 event in Sturgis, S.D., event sponsors said. This year’s event is scheduled for Aug. 4-10.
