Valhalla, N.Y. — Turtle Beach took the wraps off what’s it’s calling the first officially licensed headsets for the upcoming Nintendo Wii U gaming console.

The Ear Force NLa was engineered explicitly for use with the Wii U GamePad controller, Turtle Beach said, and a spokesman said this refers to the Wii U’s chat functionality, which works through the GamePad. The headset has a 3.5mm, four-pole mic that can plug directly into the GamePad, and it can also be used with the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS.

Other details include 40mm drivers, in-line volume control, noise-isolating ear cushions with a twist-cup design, and a flexible mic boom. Suggested retail is $34.95. It will be offered in black or white.

The Ear Force N11 ($49.95) features 50mm drivers, mesh ear pads and an adjustable headband. It too has the four-pole connector, and will be offered in black only.

Both headsets will be available in the fourth quarter.
