Wayne, N.J. — JVC unveiled Tuesday the second model in its Adixxion action video camera line — the GC-XA2.
The new model, which ships later this month at a $300 suggested retail, improves on the GC-XA1 by adding a brighter and wider-angle optical lens, improved image stabilization, a higher-resolution LCD monitor with auto off and auto brightness functions, a higher-resolution image sensor, a higher audio bit rate and better noise reduction, the company said.
JVC’s GC-XA2 was also said to connect to Wi-Fi much quicker than the first Adixxion version, and can use itself as an access point for streaming “live” to a smartphone or to Ustream, uploading to YouTube, and for still image transfer.
A Quad View function of the Adixxion sync app allows video streams from four separate Adixxion cameras to be viewed simultaneously on a smartphone screen.
Video resolution has been improved to 1,920 by 1,080 60p/50p HD with an option for 1,280 by 720 high-speed recording at 120 fps/100 fps for 4x slow-motion playback.
The GC-XA2 also offers time-lapse recording for photos as well as video. Burst mode takes multiple stills at up to 15 fps, and Simultaneous REC enables photo and video shooting at the same time.
Creative functions include four built-in visual effects.
JVC employs a Quad-Proof design that is dust-proof, shock-absorbent and water-tight (to 16.4 feet), and includes a durable rubber outer skin that helps guard the camera and recordings from rough environments.
The camera is also freeze-proof for skiers and can be mounted on a surfboard, snowboard or skateboard to capture dramatic point-of-view videos.
The body, including battery, LCD and Wi-Fi, weighs 0.3 pounds, and features mount holes located both on the bottom and side to attach to a wide variety of locations.
Other features include a brighter, wider-angle lens (f2.8 to f2.4), improved low-light performance, higher resolution built-in LCD, a new Android and iOS app for Wi-Fi, and higher-resolution backlit CMOS 8-megapixel native sensor with up to 16-megapixel still capture.
