Burnaby, British Columbia — Best Buy has promoted Ron Wilson to president/CEO of its Canada operations.
He succeeds Mike Pratt, a 24-year veteran of the Canadian group’s Future Shop chain, who reportedly left for a top U.S. retail post with a Bain Capital property.
Wilson was merchandising and e-commerce senior VP since 2008 for Best Buy Canada, and previously managed several other functions within Best Buy Canada, including merchandising, operations and marketing.
“Ron has been an integral part of Best Buy’s success in Canada for more than two decades,” said Shari Ballard, executive VP and president of Best Buy International. “His exceptional leadership skills, broad operating experience and strategic agility make him the right person to lead the organization during this important time as we look to continue our Renew Blue transformation across our business.”
Wilson faces a difficult retail market north of the border, where Wilson’s last act as chief executive was the closing of 15 stores and the layoff of 900 workers.
This TWICE webinar, hosted by senior editor Alan Wolf, will take a look at what may be the hottest CE products at retail that will be sold during the all-important fourth quarter. Top technologies, market strategies and industry trends will be discussed with industry analysts and executives.
