CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Tech Data Corporation(Nasdaq:TECD) today announced a new agreement with Samsung Electronics America, Inc. to offer unlocked versions of several Samsung devices—including the latest Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones—and Samsung KNOX™security and customization solutions, built on the company’s defense-grade mobile security platform. Under the agreement, Tech Data will be authorized to sell annual licenses for Samsung KNOX-enabled smartphones and tablets. The new Samsung offerings are available immediately to mobile service practitioners and solution providers in the United States through Tech Data’s Mobile Solutions & Retail division.
“When we think about enterprise mobile solutions, strength of security and freedom of choice is always a concern,” said Patrick Stokes, senior vice president, Mobile Solutions & Retail at Tech Data. “Samsung KNOX was built with the enterprise business in mind. Paired with the unlocked smartphone, this allows us to give more customers access to Samsung’s Galaxy of experiences—along with a leading security offering—from a well-established channel partner.”
The unlocked versions of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge offer the same cutting-edge features of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge models launched earlier this year. These include water and dust resistance, an advanced camera, fast wireless charging, Always-On Display, and other features. In addition to offering unlocked versions of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, Tech Data will also distribute unlocked versions of the Samsung Galaxy J3 and Galaxy S6.
In the Gartner report “Mobile Device Security: A Comparison of Platforms” published in April 2016, Samsung KNOX received the most “strong” ratings of any mobile security platform. The report compared the core OS security features built into various mobile device platforms, as well as enterprise management capabilities. Gartner gave Samsung KNOX the most “strong” ratings of any platform for Corporate Managed Security, and Samsung KNOX was the only platform with “strong” ratings for every security control listed in the Corporate Managed Security category according to the report.
“Samsung KNOX was built to address a top priority for today’s businesses—the need to secure data in an always-on, mobile world,” said Keith Fuentes, vice president of KNOX Sales at Samsung. “We are excited to work with Tech Data on this important agreement, which will enable more solution providers to benefit from the unlocked smartphone experience, backed by the enhanced security protection of Samsung Galaxy devices.”
