Recognition Celebrates Hu’s Leadership at HARMAN for Over 20 Years
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — July 30, 2025 — HARMAN Embedded Audio (HEA) today announced that Vice President and General Manager Ruomu Hu has been named a recipient of TWICE magazine’s 2025 Powerful Women in Consumer Electronics Award. The annual honor recognizes the influential women that are driving innovation, transformation, and leadership across the consumer technology industry.
Since joining the company in 2002, Hu has held a range of strategic and technical leadership roles. She was instrumental in expanding HARMAN’s footprint in China, serving as the company’s first expatriate country manager in Shanghai. In that role, she established HARMAN’s legal entity in China, launched a manufacturing greenfield operation, and led localization efforts for major customers including Shanghai-GM, FAW-Volkswagen, BMW-Brilliance, and Beijing-Daimler. She also spearheaded the introduction of Harman/Kardon brand marketing in the region, overseeing automotive show activations, media and press outreach, advertising campaigns, and dealer training programs.
Hu later played a key role in building HARMAN’s global automotive business, launching its presence in China’s automotive market and securing the company’s first Chinese OEM customers. As vice president of the General Motors business unit, she developed the account from the ground up — starting with a dedicated cold calling campaign — into one of HARMAN’s largest partnerships.
In her current position, Hu leads the HEA business unit. HEA designs and delivers integrated audio solutions — ranging from embedded software to hardware and finished goods — for third-party consumer products across lifestyle, mobility, home furnishing, medical, and consumer electronics categories. These products are brought to market under the Sound by JBL and Sound by Harman/Kardon brands, as well as through proprietary software licensing platforms such as AudioEFX. Under Hu’s leadership, HEA has undergone a full transformation in engineering innovation, operational excellence, platform value, and business modeling, resulting in strategic, profitable growth.

Hu holds advanced engineering degrees from the University of Michigan and Purdue University and has completed executive programs at Stanford University. She is multilingual and has led global teams across North America, China, India, Europe, Korea, and Japan.
