APRIL 15, 2015– Fuhu, Inc., the creator of the award-winning nabi® tablet – the world’s first Android tablet built for kids – and the foremost innovator in technology solutions for kids and their families, has appointed Douglas Woo to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer (COO), where he will take a leading role in driving Fuhu’s forward-thinking vision by enhancing operational processes and structures to support the company’s continued explosive growth and entry into new product categories, services, retail channels and markets.
Woo has served as President of Fuhu’s Smart Display division since 2013, where he was the chief architect behind two of the company’s most important and disruptive products and services, the category defining nabi Big Tab™ HD, which ushered in the large format tablet platform, transforming tablets into collaborative devices for both children and adults, and nabi Pass™, Fuhu’s first-of-its-kind subscription service created and curated specifically for kids to provide unlimited access to learning with Wings, a deep offering of mixed media content ─ from movies, television shows and short form videos, to apps, games, e-books and music – for one low monthly price.
Woo brings more than two decades of senior management experience in the consumer electronics industry to the Fuhu COO position. Mr. Woo was President of Westinghouse Digital Electronics at the forefront of the launch and expansion of the flat panel television industry —LCD, 1080p, LED—and the eventual merger of information technology and consumer electronics supply chains. Before Westinghouse, he was an executive with high resolution display maker Princeton Graphic Systems, Inc. and MAG Innovision, Inc. and a partner with the international law firm Pillsbury Madison & Sutro.
Jim Mitchell, CEO of Fuhu, said, “In his tenure at Fuhu, Doug has established himself as a creative and cutting edge leader who has not only developed imaginative technological solutions for families, but has also made them a successful reality. In his new role as Chief Operating Officer, we know he will implement that same ability and skill for imagination as he oversees the day-to-day operations and works in tandem with Robb Fujioka and me, as well as the rest of the executive team, to scale the business in both size and reach.”
Woo added, “Working with so many bright and talented people at Fuhu, under Robb and Jim’s leadership, has been such a great privilege. They are absolute visionaries and have made Fuhu the kind of company that is always a step ahead of the trend. I am looking forward to taking on this critical role in Fuhu’s continued evolution and the overall operation of the company with the same high level of quality and innovation that are at the core of the Fuhu ecosystem and the nabi brand.”
Woo holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and juris doctorate from Harvard Law School.
In the past year, Fuhu continued to secure a number of prestigious awards for its success and category defining products and services. Named Inc.
