LAS VEGAS — It was a busy week for New Age Electronics during International CES.
The CE and IT distributor was selected by Bang & Olufsen to extend the retail reach of its B&O Play line of music systems, speakers and headphones; expanded its portfolio of emerging tech devices; and bestowed its Retailer of the Year Award to Walmart.com and Dell.com at a customer appreciation party capped by a Goo Goo Dolls concert.
The B&O distribution agreement covers all Play audio products, and will target key fashion and assisted sales floor retailers across the U.S.
“New Age Electronics has the reach and influence to take our U.S. expansion strategy to the next level,” said Henrik Lorensen, corporate VP, B&O Play.
New Age president Fred Towns noted that both businesses “share strong synergies in delivering cutting-edge digital products.”
To that end, the distributor has also expanded its emerging technology portfolio with multiple new product offerings in wearables (3Plus); home health (Aspira Science, Interaxon); home automation (Centralite, Sercomm Zmodo); navigation and Bluetooth tracking (Trackimo, Zubie); and media distribution (GGMM, Rocki, SiliconDust).
The expansion builds on the Synnex subsidiary’s emerging technology strategy, launched last June, which is designed to deliver innovative new products to retailers along with assortment and merchandising recommendations, while providing a launch pad for new vendors.
Meanwhile, New Age also named Walmart.com its 2014 Retailer of the Year and Dell.com its 2014 Gaming Retailer of the Year for their “strong year-over-year revenue growth, close executive alignment, strategic partnership, sourcing of multiple brands and a consistent positive credit standing over the course of 2014,” the distributor said.
“As two highly strategic e-commerce customers for New Age Electronics, both retailers exemplify the significant wins that can be made through a strong distributor and retailer relationship,” Towns stated.
Noted Walmart.com merchandise manager Paul Friday, “New Age Electronics understands the omni-channel strategies needed for making next-gen retailing successful and we value their ongoing commitment to our consumer electronics business.”
Garry Wicka, Americas displays and client peripherals marketing director for Dell.com, added that his partnership with New Age has enabled his business “to offer a more expansive video gaming solution complete with the latest products and accessories to maximize sales and profits.”
The invitation-only award ceremony, held at the MGM Grand’s Hakkasan night club, was followed by a rousing set by the Goo Goo Dolls. The Buffalo, N.Y., rock band, fronted by guitarist and lead singer John Rzeznik, is perhaps best known for its breakout ballad “Iris,” which ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 100 Pop Songs chart covering the years 1992-2012.
