Nationwide Adds Electronic Price Tags

Independent dealers can now change pricing and other shelf-label information on the fly, thanks to a new addition to the Nationwide Marketing Group’s vendor roster.

Austria’s SES-imagotag is bringing its e-tag expertise with big-box and department stores to the independent channel, allowing Nationwide members to update displayed pricing and other product information through a plug-and-play solution that works in conjunction with the group’s POS (point of sale) and PriceTag vendors.

Under the system, prices and data are updated instantaneously and automatically, and prices at the shelf edge are perfectly synchronized with those scanned at the checkout, the new partners said.

The tags can also be customized and programmed to showcase various product details including regular price, promotional price, rebate options and other pricing information.

Dealers can also use the tags to show logistics information, such as live inventory levels, and both store associates and customers can connect to the tags wirelessly with their mobile devices via QR code or NFC.

“With shifting prices, promotions and specials available on a product, integrating digital prices tags onto a sales floor, to be updated directly from a member’s POS, eliminates a lot of human error,” said Nationwide member services VP Chris Kirk. “Not to mention the time and labor saved, allowing our members time to focus on other aspects of the business.

Kirk acknowledged that the technology is still new and requires an upfront investment, but cited estimates that the system can pay for itself in less than a year.
