Indianapolis — hhgregg is planning a slew of last-minute promotions to capture holiday procrastinators, who comprise the majority of shoppers.

According to a survey of 3,500 U.S. consumers commissioned by the multiregional chain, 65 percent will complete their holiday shopping within the last two weeks before Christmas, prompting a promotional response.

“This survey has given us insights into holiday shopping habits and has challenged us to come up with the best last-minute deals,” said CEO Dennis May. Incentives include a $30,000 LG Sweepstakes Giveaway tomorrow (Dec. 16) featuring eight 55-inch curved OLED TVs, eight 49-inch 4K TVs and eight 2.1-channel soundbars, and free shipping on all purchases Dec. 18-19 with guaranteed delivery before Christmas.

The latter reflects a survey finding indicating the importance of free shipping to consumers, as fully 70 percent of respondents said they are more likely to shop at a retailer offering the perk during the holidays.

Other poll results show that consumers are keen on post-Christmas sales, with 59 percent planning to shop in Santa’s wake, compared with the 47 percent that had planned to shop Black Friday sales.

What’s more, more than half (56 percent) said they follow their gift list at least somewhat closely while holiday shopping, while more than 20 percent expect their spouse or significant other to return the gift they picked out for them.
