Despite more than 40 retailers stating they will be closed on Thanksgiving, Macy’s is taking a different tack and will open even earlier than last year.
According to a story at BestBlackFriday.com, at least some Macy’s locations will open at 5:00 p.m. on Turkey Day, a full hour earlier than last year. A Macy’s store employee TWICE spoke with said the Middletown, N.Y., store would open at either 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.
Macy’s was certainly not the earliest opener last year; that crown was given to RadioShack, which opened its doors at a bleary 8:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving. Although the backlash against retailers opening on Thanksgiving may appear to be growing, it’s widely accepted by many retailers that the horse has left the barn.
Seeking to appeal to those consumers who have no desire to partake in “Gray Thursday,” however, many retailers are expected to stock even more doorbusters online this holiday season.
