Samsung Scrutinized For Falsely Representing Specs Of New OLED TV

Thankfully, this issue only affects consumers using their TV to PC game on high settings

Some consumers are scrutinizing Samsung for false advertising, as it has come out that they may have misrepresented some specifications of their S95C QD-OLED TVs.

As first reported by TV reviewer Vincent Teoh, it seems that the HDMI 2.1 ports on the S95C OLED TVs are not capable of 48 Gbps as the manufacturer claims, but rather limited to a bandwidth of 40 Gbps. This is particularly damning given that Samsung lauded the TV model of being capable of supporting 4K/144Hz gameplay for video games at this year’s CES. Because of the 40 Gbps limitation, that framerate and refresh rate combination is simply not possible.

According to Teoh, the main issue is that the One Connect Box that ships with the S95C cannot handle the full 48 Gbps signal. Ironically, this issue is not present in the cheaper S90C model, as it does not ship with the One Connect Box. Teoh says that this limitation of the external box is why some users have reported experiencing signal drops when using the S95C to play games on their PC.
