Sony Adds HDR To Another 4K Projector

Sony Electronics is bringing high dynamic range (HDR) capability to its 4K VPL-VW365ES hometheater projector.

Current owners will be able to add the feature with a free firmware update in May, making the VPL-VW365ES Sony’s third home cinema projector to support 4K HDR. The VPL-VW5000ES and VPL-VW665ES also support the format.

The projector was unveiled at CEDIA 2015 last fall.

The VPL-VW365ES uses SXRD panels for a native 4K picture, said Sony, with no artificial manipulation of pixels, allowing over 26 million pixels to be displayed with each refresh cycle. Other features include the company’s Triluminos engine, Motionflow picture technology for reduced blurriness, HDMI 2.0a, HDCP 2.2, and a built-in RF 3D transmitter. Suggested retail is $9,999.
