Geared toward families who regularly stream 4K content — or for houses with dead spots —the Covr-2202 ($299) is engineered to provide scalable high-speed mesh Wi-Fi across an entire home. It offers Wi-Fi 5 AC2200 speeds and uses tri-band Wi-Fi and a dedicated backhaul channel to serve as the communication link between units. This frees up the other two bands for faster streaming and downloads, said the company. The Covr-2202 also has built-in Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa compatibility for a voice-controlled Wi-Fi network.
A tri-band router with a 716MHz quad-core processor, the AC2200 features the company’s Intelligent Mesh Technology for speedy and reliable streaming and smart-home control. Setup and security updates are managed through the dedicated app. Suggested retail is $199.
With built-in Google Assistant, Lenovo’s newest smart device features both voice and touch controls that let users stream music, check the weather or set their schedule. Its unobtrusive design features a full fabric soft-touch cover, touchscreen, 6-watt speaker and a display that only activates when in use, reverting to customizable clock faces during downtime. It will ship this spring for $79.99.
The company is updating its Orbi whole-home system to use Wi-Fi 6 via advanced Qualcomm SoC. This will enable it to deliver sustained gigabit Internet speeds across large homes, households with extensive smart-home setups, and those that continuously stream 4K to mobile devices. It will ship in the second half of the year.
