Samsung Brings DSLR Ditch Day To L.A.

Hollywood – Following up on the success of its recent “Ditch The DSLR” event in Times Square, Samsung is taking the show to the West Coast October 14 to give Golden Staters a shot at trading in a DSLR for a new Samsung NX30 or NX Mini mirrorless compact camera.

Samsung will bring out stars Nick Cannon and Julianne Hough to help celebrate the activities, and participate in a Guinness World Record attempt at selfie taking.

The “Ditch The DSLR” festivities will begin for consumers at 10 a.m. at Hollywood and Highland Center, 6801 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Samsung is using the event to showcase its popular NX mirrorless compact system camera family, but most specifically the high-end NX30 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (ILC) and the ultra-compact NX Mini SMART ILC. Both are optimized for selfie taking among many other shooting situations, and offer slim, compact, and easy-to-carry alternatives to traditionally big, heavy DSLRs.

Cannon and Hough will be on-hand to pose with fans for the selfie action. The world record attempt will begin at 3 p.m.

The camera exchange is good on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Consumers must bring an undamaged, working DSLR body, lens and battery to qualify for the exchange.

In the afternoon, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles will join Samsung, Cannon and Hough for the Guinness World Record attempt.

Samsung said it will donate $50,000 to the HFH cause, once the record is set.
