Kohler Health’s Dekoda Earns Industry Awards

The toilet-mounted health monitor marks its first year with recognition from TIME, Fast Company and other design organizations

Kohler Health is marking the one-year anniversary of Dekoda, its toilet-mounted health monitor, with multiple industry awards recognizing its design and technology.

The device has received Reviewed’s Best of the Year Award, Fast Company’s Innovation by Design recognition, an iF Gold Award, a San Francisco Design Week Award, and a UX Design Award. It was also named to TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 list.

Dekoda attaches to a toilet and monitors indicators related to digestion and hydration. Using proprietary optical spectroscopy technology developed by Kohler Co., the device can detect hemoglobin and is the only at-home toilet-based health tracker capable of detecting blood in the toilet bowl, according to the company.

“When we developed Dekoda, our goal was to give people the tools to listen to their bodies, track meaningful results over time, and take charge of their own wellness journey,” said Nora Tophof, Managing Director of Kohler Health. “It’s important to realize that the human eye is only capable of seeing so much – and trace amounts of blood or other issues are not always apparent. Subtle biological markers, such as microscopic blood or early signs of dehydration, often go unnoticed. Dekoda works quietly behind the scenes to capture those crucial clues, giving people clear, objective data they can use to help shape behaviors or share with their doctor.”

Health Tracking at Home

Dekoda connects with the Kohler Health app, where users can review health indicators and track patterns over time. The company positions the device for consumers interested in general wellness and longevity, as well as those managing chronic gastrointestinal conditions.

Kohler Health is also a member of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, supporting efforts to help people living with inflammatory bowel disease better manage their health. The company plans to continue research and development, with future software updates and features intended to expand health tracking and provide more personalized recommendations. Data security is another focus. Kohler Health said Dekoda uses AES-256 encryption for stored data and TLS 1.3 for data in transit. Users can review or permanently delete their health records.

Dekoda retails for $449 and is available through Kohler.com and KohlerHealth.com.
