Ring has opened pre orders for its latest video doorbell, the Ring Video Doorbell Wired. This new model is scheduled for release on February 24, 2021 for $59.99, and while it’s compact and less expensive, it does require you to connect it to your existing doorbell’s power, or run new power to the installation.

“Since day one, Ring’s focus has been to invent security solutions that solve real customer problems,” said Jamie Siminoff, Founder and Chief Inventor of Ring in a statement. “With Ring Video Doorbell Wired, we packed the features that matter into a small, compact design, giving customers more choice when it comes to selecting the Ring Video Doorbell that best fits their needs.

Fortunately, the Ring Wired doesn’t skimp on features, and includes 1080p HD video, night vision, two-way audio, customizable motion zones, and privacy zones – everything you’ll find on the full-sized Ring Video Doorbell. Used in conjunction with the Ring App or Alexa-enabled devices, you can speak to visitors in real-time as well, making it possible to see and interact with what’s going on your doorstep.

The Ring Video Doorbell Wired can be preordered on either ring.com or amazon.com, and the unit will be available at The Home Depot and other retailers after the February 24 release.

Additionally, Ring Wired users can subscribe to Ring Protect, which includes the following features for $3/month or $30 /year per device:

  • Advanced Pre-Roll, which gives you up to six seconds of high-definition video from before motion is detected for additional context on what triggered the Ring alert;
  • People Only Mode, which sets your Ring Video Doorbell Wired to only alert you when it detects motion caused by people;
  • Rich Notifications, which sends you a still image from your doorbell camera as a preview in the pop-up notification, so you can see at a glance what triggered the alert, without even opening the Ring App;
  • Snapshot Capture, which automatically takes snapshots at intervals during the day so you can review what’s happened in front of your doorbell, even in between events.
