iHome is shipping its toughest bunch of Bluetooth speakers to date.
Four speakers in the Weather Tough line are iHome’s first Bluetooth speakers with an IP67 rating, which signifies a dust-tight chassis able to be immersed in water up to 1 meter in depth for 30 minutes.
The quartet is also promoted as offering military-spec rubberized shock-proof casings.
Other iHome speakers have been rated up to IPX4, a spokesman said, indicating they are protected from water splashes and aren’t dust-proof or dust-resistant.
The speakers, priced from a suggested $39 to $99, come with speakerphone features, including built-in microphone, echo cancellation and answer and end controls.
All will be available direct from iHome and through select Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Target and other stores. Two are available now, and two are due later this month.
The lineup starts with the $39.99 iBT37 triangular mono speaker, due in June with eight-hour internal rechargeable battery and quarter-inch tripod mount on bottom.
The $49.99 circular iBT82, already available, features an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery with up to 12 hours of playing time. The mono speaker weighs less than 4 ounces.
The $69.99 rectangular iBT35, already available, comes with eight-hour rechargeable battery, aux-in jack, mono driver, carabiner clip with built-in bottle opener, and LED indicators for battery charging and Bluetooth pairing.
The $99.99 rectangular iBT9, due in June, steps up to stereo speakers, 1-amp USB port to charge mobile devices, two full-range drivers, passive bass radiator, 12-hour internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and included 2-amp USB/AC adapter.
